Part Two

Who were these men of faith
The Scripture speaks about?
Men of victory.
Men who lived with no doubt.
Abraham, Isaac,
Include Jacob, too,
Joseph and Moses,
Just to name a few.
The world, not worthy
Of these faithful ones.
They trusted in God,
True daughters and sons.
Trust brought miracles.
Promises obtained.
Kingdoms were subdued.
Mouths of lions trained.
Fiery furnace quenched.
Escaped the sword’s edge.
Weaknesses made strong.
Braved battles pledged.
Mockings and scourgings,
Imprisonment, chained,
Stoned and afflicted,
Yet their faith remained.
These all died in faith.
Promises await.
Strangers on earth, but
Home through heaven’s gate.
Rewards to be seen,
Prepared for us all.
Now believe and trust.
Faith’s victory recall.
(Based on Hebrews 11)
These heroes of our faith lived with courage even in the midst of their battles. Some were named, but many others were not. We may never be named and our lives may seem to be ordinary, but a life lived with faith in Jesus is never ordinary. We can live with extraordinary faith.
Living out our faith may not take us to risky places, but it will take us to our neighborhoods, our work places, and our places of worship. Our deeds of kindness, along with our words of faith, may go unnoticed, but God sees and knows and it brings glory to His name. Our prayer is to have the courage to follow Jesus like these faithful men and women. Our prayer is to always take that leap of faith.
