Give, and you will receive
Good measure and pressed down.
It’s shaken together,
Spilling out all around.
Watch the generous soul.
He will be rich indeed.
When he waters others,
His blessings will exceed.
For all things we possess
Come from our God alone.
Our abundance and gifts
Are His and not our own.
So, God, we honor You
With all of our treasure.
Our first fruits of increase
To the Lord we measure.
Try Me now and witness
What will open for you,
The windows in heaven,
Countless blessing so true.
Poured out in abundance
Until they overflow,
More than you can receive,
More than you’ll ever know.
God is able to make
All grace to you abound,
So you will have enough
For every good work found.
Let each one of us give
And purpose from the start,
Without any grudging,
But with a cheerful heart.
So our barns will be filled
With plenty when needed.
Our vats will overflow,
Our rewards exceeded.
(Based on: Luke 6:38, Proverbs 3:10,
Malachi 3:10, 2 Corinthians 9:7-8)
At some point, everything we own will end up in a junkyard or landfill. The final resting place for the things we accumulate, the things of this world, are temporary. When we die, we move on to eternity, but our stuff stays behind. Examine how we spend our money and our time; what do we dwell on? Is God at the center of it all?
"The earth is the Lord's, and all its fullness, the world and the who dwell therein." Psalm 24:1
It all belongs to God, but we are the managers of it on earth. If we are God's managers, we need to pray for doors to open and that we will know His will.
What are your priorities? Look at how we spend our time and our money. Helping others, giving to promote Christian beliefs, or supporting our churches are gifts from God. A generous lifestyle is pleasing to God and shows our gratitude for all that He has done for us. Each of us may be in different places in our finances and our giving, but we are on equal ground when we talk about God’s plan for being generous.
