Calm My Anxious Heart

Posted on August 13, 2021August 13, 2021 by ruthbillingsley

Week Two

Philippians 4:6-8

Thank You, God
For turning worry to peace.
My cares and sorrows
Only You can release.

Thank You for guarding
My heart and my mind.
True quiet and rest
In Jesus I find.

Whatever is pure
Whatever is true
Whatever is just,
Let me find it in You.

In You let me dwell
Till safely I’m found
Content in Your arms
And heavenly bound

What has life’s circumstances dealt you?

Health or illness?

Wealth or financial struggles?

A spouse, single, or widowed?

Peace or worry?

Our anxiety should be a springboard or a motivation to pray specifically.  Prayer is a choice, a good one.

OUR PART is in verse 6:  Pray earnestly and ask God to intervene, and then thank Him.

GOD’S PART is in verse 7: He will give you peace that is beyond understanding.  God will guard your heart and mind from worrying thoughts.

Verse 8 tells us to meditate on pleasant things: truth, justice, purity, and things that are lovely, noble, of good report, virtuous, and praiseworthy.  Fill your mind with these positive things and stay away from the negative.

Find the positive in everything.  Look for it; it is there.

Here are some examples.  George Henry Stephenson delivered this message to his congregation:

“In youth, thank God for the brightness of the future.

In old age, thank God for the many years He gave you.

In health, thank God for physical blessings.

In illness, thank God for wise physicians and good medicine.

In wealth, thank God for the people you are able to help.

In poverty, thank God for Jesus, who was rich and became poor.

In great losses, thank God for blessed memories.

In death, thank God for the hope of eternal life.”

Yes, God is in control.
