Something that makes a good situation even better is called “icing on the cake!”
We see the hand of God in the sky, on the earth, and in our lives. His blessings on us are reflected in how He cares for nature. Nature gives us a glimpse of the God, who is in control, and lets us know He is near.
Thank You, Lord For icing on the cake, For stars in the nighttime And warmth when I wake. For leaves when they turn So lovely and bright And soft, fluffy clouds What a beautiful sight. Such amazing creations Can only be called Icing on the cake When You are involved. So special and wondrous Are the things You do, And now You have shown me Everyday they are new. For every day, Lord, is special, It’s icing on the cake Stars in the nighttime And warmth when I wake.
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.” Psalm 19:1-4(NIV)
The two verbs “declare” and “proclaim” illustrate God’s voice speaking to us in His glory. The “work of His hands” illustrates God’s great power.
1. God reveals Himself in creation.
By opening our eyes and ears we can see and hear His handiwork. His creation reaches all people at all times, even to the ends of the earth.
2. God reveals Himself in scripture.
His word is powerful. He spoke and the world was created. His breath can make something out of nothing. He is also speaking to us today through His word with that same breath that created the universe. Are you reading God’s word? If not, how do you know His plan for you? How do you learn about the special and wondrous things He has done in history and continues to do today?
We are to look upward at nature, downward at scripture, and inward at ourselves. All of these call for worship. Go outside and see through the eyes of faith. Contemplate God’s creation. The wonders we see around us are just a taste of how glorious God really is. Experience the sweet taste of “icing on the cake.”
