Creation’s Glory

Posted on October 2, 2020 by ruthbillingsley

This psalm reveals a picture of David as a young shepherd boy, tending his sheep, and looking up in wonder at the beautiful night sky.  He saw the same moon, stars, and space that we see today. He praised the same mighty Lord that we praise.

O Lord, Our Lord
How majestic is Your name.
All the earth rejoices
All the heavens proclaim.

From the lips of children
Your glory is praised.
They silence all enemies.
Your banner is raised.

Consider Your heavens
Which You put in place,
The work of Your fingers
The moon, stars, and space.

What is man
That You care for him?
Made lower than angels
Despite all his sin.

You crowned him with glory.
Made him ruler of all,
The beast of the field
The herds, large and small.

The birds of the air
The fish of the sea
The lion and lamb
And all that run free

O Lord, our Lord
How majestic is Your name.
All the earth rejoices
All the heavens proclaim.
                     Psalm 8

We need to take time to consider the vast expanse of the universe as we look up at the night sky and see the work of God’s fingers.  We realize not only the glory of the heavens, but also the glory of the Creator.  Who are we?  Even though we are but a tiny speck in this universe, we are made in His image, loved by Him, and given rule over all the earth.  What a responsibility!  I’m thankful that His love is as great as His power.
