The Potter and the Clay

Posted on May 1, 2026 by ruthbillingsley
I went to the potter’s house.
The wheel was turning fast.
The clay was being formed.
Its shape would soon be cast.

But the clay was marred and flawed.
The potter tried once more
To form and mold His work,
To be what it was for.

May the Lord be my potter,
To create and mold me.
I‘m soft clay in His hands.
He makes what I will be.

Now, how will you be molded?
Shaped and formed day by day?
To be a new creation.
Trusting God all the way.

Through fire and the Master’s touch,
With troubles on every side,
We’re put through the fire of faith
Changed and in Christ we abide.

We are the work of God’s hands.
Faithful whatever befall.
Molded to be like Him.
Obedient to His call.

We’re clay in the Potter’s hand,
To be finished and designed.
What in your life today
Will need to be refined?
(Based on Jeremiah 18)

“But now, O Lord, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You our potter, and all we are the work of Your hand. Isaiah 64:8

Jeremiah 18:4 says that the potter formed the clay into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. God has a special purpose for each of us. We all have goals in life and strive to reach them, but let God mold you along the journey for His greater purpose and let him have His way with you.

Let go and let God!
