“Evie”

Evelyn is my granddaughter.
She was born on a Saturday.
The first girl in our family,
And we gave a shout, hooray.
We took some wonderful pictures
And made a lot of calls.
I got to hold her and cuddle,
Even though she’s very small.
She’s named after my mother,
Evelyn Marti Steward,
And her mother and grandmothers,
The sweetest name we’ve heard.
This little girl is precious,
Made to adore and treasure.
God has given us a gift.
We love her beyond measure.
We’ll call her little “Evie,”
And we’ll have a lot of fun.
We’ll watch her learn and grow,
For our journey’s just begun.

This poem was written a few days after Evie was born 18 years ago. We have had a wonderful journey watching her learn and grow into the beautiful young lady she is today. Her graduation ceremony last night from Haas Hall Academy was the beginning of a new journey for her. Her accomplishments are unique and gives everyone a picture of how special she is. She has been a cheerleader, managed Haas Hall’s Quiz Bowl team, started a club for volunteers to partner with disabled teens which led to an award from 99 Balloons, and worked as the Outreach Coordinator for Care for Women. She has written a children’s book, “Bedtime at the Zoo,” and is an accomplished pianist.
From a little girl, who told her grandpa, “I hate math” to a young lady, who says, “I love math,” she has been an inspiration to us. We have watched her transformation into being an aspiring aerospace engineer who will attend the University of Michigan.
She was featured in April’s Stroll Pinnacle magazine’s Young Achiever, which I have included below.
Congratulations Evie!
