Prayer’s Power

Posted on May 24, 2024 by ruthbillingsley
Moses interceded for the people.
He gazed on God, face to face.
He prayed in faith and believed,
Pleading for mercy and grace.

You go before us in a cloud,
At night, by a burning fire.
Now I pray, be with us all,
For this is my heart’s desire.

The Lord is longsuffering,
Abundant in grace and love.
Forgive our iniquity,
And send Your love from above.

Pardon now our every sin,
For Your favor remains great.
Clear away our transgressions,
For forgiveness we await.

Then the Lord said to Moses,
“Because of your prayer to Me,
I have pardoned everyone
And My glory you will see.”

God’s name is seen in the clouds,
And at night His fire glows bright.
He’s in the hearts of each man,
And His truth shines forth as light.

Be salt and light to all you meet,
And spread God’s love all around.
God hears each and every word,
And your deeds of love resound.

Like Moses, keep on praying.
Intercede for all the earth.
God loves each and every one.
They are gifts of precious worth.

"Pardon the iniquity of this people,
I pray, according to the greatness of your mercy."

(Based on Numbers 14)

Moses pleaded for the nation of Israel, claiming the promises that God had made to him. He believed in the power of God through prayer. He prayed for forgiveness and restoration of the people. God saw his heart and his humility. His intercession was successful.

We should pray as Moses did. We pray for mercy and pardon. There is power in prayer and God delights when we honor Him. The earth is full of His glory and He is praised. Remember the prayers of Moses and Jesus, as well as other faithful men in the past.

Jesus prayed in the morning, at noon and at night; and sometimes all night long. He prayed at His baptism, in the home, in the fields, on the sea, in the mountains, in the desert, in the garden, and on the cross. He prayed for Himself. He prayed for His disciples. He prayed for us. And, above all, He prayed for the men who nailed Him to the cross. Why pray? Because Jesus did and He sets our perfect example.

What A Friend We Have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry,
Everything to God in prayer!

Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer:

Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge;
Take it to the Lord in prayer:

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He'll take and shield thee;
Thou wilt find a solace there.
