Deuteronomy 6:1-9

These are the commands The Lord wants us to know. Observe in the land Where our children grow. They’ll then fear the Lord For as long as they live, Keeping all the laws God’s Holy Word will give. Then you will enjoy A long life with God’s peace, And all will go well. Promises never cease. The Lord God is one, So, love Him with your all— All your heart and soul, And in His strength, stand tall. These commands God gives To be upon each heart. Instruct your children So they’ll never depart. Talk of them at home And as you walk along. Speak when you lie down Or sing your morning song. Tie them as symbols On your hands and your head. Write them on door frames Where all truths can be read. Fear God, keep His laws, And prosperous you’ll be. Not of earthly gain, But God’s gifts you will see.
Living God’s commands requires us to teach our children and grandchildren the benefits of following God. How do we do that? Talk to them at home. Talk to them in our activities. Talk to them when we lie down at night. Talk to them each morning. Each moment we spend with our family is a time to live out our faith.
Moses declares two mighty truths in verses 4 and 5. “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”
- Love the Lord with everything you have.
- Your heart: Where are your values and intents?
- Your soul: What are your deepest desires?
- Your strength: What effort do you show?
Every part of our life should lead us to love God, obey Him, and follow Him. This is the path to the greatest blessing.

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down and when you rise up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7
