Calm My Anxious Heart

Week Ten

Trusting God With the “What Ifs”

What Ifs
The “what ifs” of life
Fill us with fright.
They keep us from believing
In God’s strength and might.

Will we trust God
In whatever comes our way?
Focus on His peace
And what His Word will say?

The world give us illness,
Worry, and strife,
But God gives us contentment
And His Son gives us life.

Be quiet under God’s hand.
Put your trust in Him.
Seek His will for today,
Even as the light grows dim.

The sun will shine in the morning.
All “what ifs” are gone.
Your focus upon Jesus.
His love carries you on.

Jeremiah 17:5-8 shows the contrast between trusting in ourselves and trusting in the Lord. The outcome is either curses or blessings. Do we “help God” by taking control and trusting in our own strength or do we wait for God to work in His timing?

FOCUS ON GOD NOT SELF

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

FIX OUR EYES ON GOD

“But my eyes are upon You, O God the Lord; in You I take refuge. Psalm 141:8

FIX OUR HEARTS ON GOD

”He will not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.” Psalm 112:7

Does God really know what I am going through?

1.) God can turn anything the enemy means for evil into good in our lives.(Romans 8:28).

2.) He will not allow us to walk through trials we are not able to handle. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

3.) Even when we walk through difficult circumstances, we can triumph through every challenge when we put our hope in Him. (Psalm 25:3)

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to His Will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next.
