God’s Omnipotence

Part Five

“Wings of the ostrich,
They cannot compare
With the stork’s feather,
The strength that is there.

“But I did not give
Her wisdom or sense.
She treats her young harsh,
Full of violence.

“She spreads her feathers
To run, then will laugh
At horse and rider.
Did I plan this gaff ?

“Do you give the horse
His strength or his mane?
Do you make him leap
And snort with disdain?

“He paws with such force,
Rejoicing in strength.
Charges to the fray
Regardless of length.

“He laughs at all fear,
Does not shy away.
With sword at his side,
There is no delay.

“The trumpet blasts sounds.
His snort brings dismay.
The scent of battle
Sends him on his way."
(Based on Job 39:13-25)

God’s creations are many and varied. The ostrich and the horse were the focus of these verses. The ostrich neglects her eggs and treats her young badly because of her lack of wisdom. She has wings but cannot fly. She weighs around 200 pounds and can grow to 6 feet tall. God asks Job, “Can you make an ostrich? I can and I have the power to give wisdom.

In contrast, the horse is fierce in battle. He runs into war with his strength and wisdom. He Is made for war and laughs at war. All of God’ creations have different roles to play in life. The wisdom or lack of it is under God’s control. Are we like the ostrich and bury our heads in the sand or are we like the horse, ready for battle. We need God’s wisdom to see victory.

God is wise and we are not. Job learned from God that day when he was questioned. “Who are you to speak?” We do not understand, but with prayer and obedience we trust in God to guide us along life’s journey.
