Give ear to my words, O Lord.
Consider all my sighing.
Listen to my cry for help.
On You I am relying.
You are my King and my God.
To You alone I pray.
Hear my voice in the morning
And show me Your perfect way.
You are a God who hates evil.
With You the wicked cannot dwell
The arrogant cannot stand.
All who do wrong You will dispel.
You destroy those who tell lies.
You abhor deceitful men.
Those who are bloodthirsty
And sin again and again.
But I, by Your great mercy,
Will see Your throne and crown.
Toward Your holy temple
In reverence I bow down.
Lead me, O Lord, in righteousness.
Make straight Your way before me.
Protect me from my enemies.
They live by dishonesty.
Not a word from them is trusted.
Their heart is filled with conceit.
Their throat is an open grave.
With their tongue they speak deceit.
Declare them guilty, O God!
Banish them for their sin.
Let their schemes be their downfall.
Rebellion does not win.
Let all who take refuge in You
Be glad and sing for joy.
Spread Your protection over them.
Your lovely name employ.
For surely, O Lord
The righteous You bless.
Surrounded with favor,
Your shield of holiness.
(Based on Psalm 5)
Prayerfulness is not an event; it is a way of having a relationship with God. It is a way of life. This psalm encourage us to begin our day with the Lord. Prayer connects us to God in all of life’s circumstances. God is always listening, every moment. Many people find it essential to begin every day with the Lord. Before checking email, catching the news, or eating breakfast, they find some quiet moments alone to read a portion of God’s Word, praise Him for His greatness, thank Him for His love, and seek His guidance. Others spend time reading and praying at different times of the day. It’s not magic—it’s maintenance, as we ask the Lord each day to fill our hearts with His presence on our journey of life.
