“The Lord has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.”
Nahum 1:3

Nahum had a vision.
He had a burden too.
Spoke against Nineveh
As he told them God’s view.
God is a jealous God,
And the Lord will repay.
He is so furious;
His wrath will not delay.
God is slow to anger,
And His power is great,
But He will not acquit
The wicked with their hate.
The Lord will have His way
In each whirlwind and storm.
The clouds are His feet’s dust.
His might He will perform.
The Lord is our refuge
When trouble comes along.
He’s good to those who trust,
But Nineveh was wrong.
Look, there on the mountain,
The feet of one will bring
Good news and proclaim peace.
He comes. We bow and sing.

Storms, floods, and earthquakes are a part of the present world. We sometimes call them “natural disasters,” but they are not a surprise to God. Does God control the weather? God established weather when He created the heavens and the earth, but because of sin, nature has taken a different course. The pain and sorrow of this present world, along with severe weather, is an example of an imperfect world.
Before the flood, the weather was very mild and different from today. It did not even rain, but now we are victims of our naturally occurring weather. We read examples of bad weather in scripture and realize that God has many reasons for storms.
- The flood in Genesis 6-9 because of sin.
- Jonah was taught a lesson in Jonah 1.
- Job was tested in the book of Job.
- Hail was a plague of Egypt in Exodus 9:23-29.
Thankfully, a new world is coming when God will create a new heaven and a new earth. Deadly storms will not be a part of that world, but, until then, we will trust in the sovereignty of God and believe His Word.
