Seasons of Life

Posted on April 12, 2024 by ruthbillingsley
To everything there is a season,
Like the seasons of the year.
A time for every purpose;
They will come, that is clear.

A time to be born,
When it all began.
A time to die,
God’s perfect plan.

A time to plant,
Buried in the ground,
And then to reap,
Harvest abound.

A time to kill,
In times of war.
A time to heal,
Love to restore.

A time to break down
Our walls of hate,
And to build up
Faith to create.

A time to weep
For the sins of man.
A time to laugh;
Thank God we can.

A time to mourn,
Loved ones have died.
A time to dance,
Happy inside.

A time to cast away
Stones that constrain.
A time to gather,
Build up, remain.

A time to embrace
All that we love.
A time to let go
To God above.

A time to gain
Blessings, delight.
A time to lose;
Keep God in sight.

A time to hold
All that is dear.
A time to throw away
What we have near.

A time to tear
Away all greed.
A time to sew,
Mend all you need.

A time to keep silent,
Thoughts to conceal.
A time to speak,
God’s words reveal.

A time to love,
Let your heart soar.
A time to hate,
All sin to deplore.

A time of war,
Protect what is right.
A time of peace,
Content in God’s sight.

To everything there is a season.
They come to you and me.
A time for every purpose.
Believe in God’s sovereignty.
(Based on Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)

Ecclesiastes 3 contrasts 14 seasons of truth. Each one has its’ own time and purpose. God’s plan for our lives involves many experiences. They may be good or bad, tragedies or celebrations, dreadful or beautiful, but God, in His wisdom, orchestrates our circumstances to show His sovereignty and authority in our lives. Verse 14 tells us that God does these things so that men would fear Him and remember who He is.

In verse 11, ” He has made everything beautiful in its time,” explains that the right experience at the right time is beautiful. We may not understand God’s timing, but we trust He knows what’s best for us. He has a purpose for everything.

What do we do in times of illness, suffering, or uncertainty? What are we to do when life doesn’t make sense? Trust God and His ways, for it does make sense to Him. Romans 8:28 says, “All things work together for good.” Be joyful in all circumstances and delight in His good gifts to us.
