Take Your Tears to God

Lamentations of Jeremiah

Engraving by Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld (March 26, 1794 – May 24, 1872)
"My eyes flow and do not cease, without interruption, till the Lord from heaven looks down and sees."
Lamentations 3:49-50
My eyes are flowing,
And they will not cease
Until my Lord God
Brings me hope and peace.

Until He looks down
 From heaven to see,
My eyes will bring grief,
And my soul will plea.

I’m being hunted,
So my life may end.
Stones are being thrown.
Come now and defend!

Waters are flowing
Now over my head.
I said, “I’m cut off.
My soul’s full of dread.”

I called Your name
From the lowest pit.
You have heard my voice.
Do not hide or quit.

My cries touched Your heart,
And You have come near.
On the day I called,
You said, “Do not fear.”

You took up my case
And redeemed my life.
Seeing how I’m wronged,
My case full of strife.

You see the vengeance.
I'm a taunting song.
Repay every scheme
And make right the wrong.

Hear all my troubles,
My grief and my woes.
My song of lament,
God answers; God knows.

A prayer to my God
That's covered in tears
Has a voice that speaks
To His heart that hears.

(Based on Lamentations 3:49-66)

Suffering is always personal. When a nation experiences war, famine, earthquakes, fire or floods, it is the individuals who suffer. Jeremiah grieved along with the people of Judah because of the destruction of Jerusalem. Even in his grief though, he testified of the Lord’s compassion. He prayed that God’s people would turn back to Him.

Do you sometimes feel that God has abandoned you ? In reality we have moved away from God when we feel this way. God has not moved. He is unchanging and is always there for us. Because God cares, we can find hope in knowing He will help us if we ask Him. That is the key. Pray, cry out to Him and He will answer. He knows your thoughts but He wants to hear them. He knows and He will answer. Prayer changes things. Prayer changes you.
