Hear Me!

Vindicate me, O God Hear me and plead my cause, Against an ungodly nation Rescue me from deceitful jaws. You are God, my stronghold. Why do You reject me? Why must I go about mourning When oppressed by the enemy? Send forth Your light and truth. Let them both be my guide. Bring me to Your holy mountain, Up to the place where You reside. Going to Your altar, To God, my joy, delight I will praise You with the harp. O God, my God, to You I write. Why is my soul downcast? Why so disturbed in me? Put all your hope in the Lord God And praise Him for eternity. (Based on Psalm 43)

Longfellow expressed his sorrow in composing this lovely Christmas song. Instead of the expected Christmas joy, the words cry out that there is no peace on earth, only hate and hostility. Life is filled with reasons for sadness and we all experience them regularly. We live in an ungodly world, yet, there is hope. Even through our tears, God is at work and the right will prevail. Someday there will be peace on earth and goodwill toward men. We look forward to that day.
