God’s Protection

Posted on October 20, 2023 by ruthbillingsley
When wisdom enters in,
Into your heart and soul,
Common sense will keep you
Sheltered in God’s control.

It keeps you from evil,
From men who speak bad things,
Who leave the paths of light
To walk where darkness stings.

Men rejoice in evil,
Delight in wicked's wrath;
Their ways are so crooked,
And scheming is their path.

But wisdom will save you
From immoral women,
Who seduce and flatter
With lies that are given.

She forsakes all her friends.
God’s laws she doesn’t learn.
Her house leads down to death;
Those who go don’t return.

So, walk in God's goodness
And keep righteousness near.
The upright and blameless
Will remain without fear.

But the wicked will be
Cut off from all the earth,
And the unfaithful ones
Will be exiled, no worth.

(Based on Proverbs 2:10-22)

If we are wise, we will avoid all evil. How? By seeking godly wisdom, not the wisdom of this world. Godly wisdom not only will fill our minds, but it will fill our hearts. The ways of sin are ways of darkness. We feel uncomfortable and unsafe. Those who leave the path of light and goodness are fools. They take pleasure in sin; both in committing it, and in seeing others commit it. Let the sufferings of others be our warnings. It is very rare that anyone who is caught in the snare of sin and evil will recover by themselves. The heart is hardened and the mind blinded by the deceitfulness of sin.

The benefits of wisdom are knowing God, protection from mistakes in life, and an eternal home with God in the life to come. Hebrews says that the heroes of our faith “were longing for a better country—a heavenly one.” If you are longing for a better home, pursue wisdom. Seek God by believing His Word, accepting it, and praying for guidance. Wisdom is a gift, but it’s a gift we have to work for. Knowing God is a gift. Spending eternity with Him is a gift. His protection is a gift. All of these gifts we can acquire through wisdom. Seek wisdom and find your forever home with God.
