Proverbs 1:1-9

The proverbs of Solomon, David was his father, King of all Israel, Wisdom’s gifted author. Wisdom and instruction, Know them and understand. Have justice and judgment; Be fair to every man. May the simple be prudent, The young man analyze. Hear and increase learning; Attain counsel that’s wise. Understand these proverbs; Interpret each word. They are good and holy, True benefits secured. The fear of the Lord Brings me to first recognize All knowledge and wisdom, But fools hate and despise. Listen to me, my son, To instructions I give. And your mother’s teaching, It will help you to live. These words will be a garland To grace around your head, And chains about your neck Show by honor you are led.
Solomon had everything he desired, but in the end he saw the foolishness of his actions. He had all the wisdom God made available to him, yet he followed His own desires. He wrote Proverbs to instill understanding, knowledge, and wisdom to us. Let us look at these important concepts.
Understanding is to develop meaning, reason, and common sense by learning God’s Word.
Knowledge is the skills God gives us through facts, information, and memory.
Wisdom is when our learning and knowledge is put into acton. This takes time as we apply wisdom through our actions and we are able to judge what is true and right and follow those ideals in our daily lives.
The fear of the Lord brings honor and respect to God and His will for our lives. We know that His will is obedience through understanding, developing our skills and putting those skills into action. What would God have you do wisely for Him today?
