Proverbs 4:5-19
Get wisdom and understanding! Do not turn away from My words. Neither forget My instruction, But let every word be heard. Do not forsake words of wisdom, For she will protect and defend. Love her, and she will keep you near And care for you like a friend. Wisdom is the principal thing. Understanding is your life spring. Even costing all that you have, Honor and praise she will bring. Exalt her; you’ll be lifted up. Embrace her, and you’ll be renown. A garland of grace for your head, You’ll wear a glorious crown. Listen and accept what I say, And your life will be many years. I will teach you in the right way And lead you on paths, no fears. When you walk, you’ll not be hindered, And when you run, you will not stray. Hold on fast to her instruction, Then it will not get away. Guard it well, for she is your life. Do not enter the wicked’s path. Don’t ever walk in evil’s way Or travel the way of wrath. Avoid all wrong and turn away, For the sinful will never rest. They do not fall asleep at night, Unless they’ve performed their best. They eat the bread of wickedness And the wine of violence drink. The way of the guilty is dark. They stumble on what they think. But the pathway of righteousness Is compared to the shining sun. It will shine eternal and bright. That Perfect Day has begun.
“Get wisdom.” How? Proverbs 9:10 says we get wisdom when we fear the Lord. “Get understanding.” How? We get understanding by knowing the Holy One (Jesus). Fear the Lord by showing respect, obeying, submitting, and worshipping. God is present and watching everything we do. When we realize this we will make wiser decisions. God’s wisdom is in His written Word. Study it! Apply it! Learn from your mistakes. Put God before self and trust Him. Ask Him to give it to you and with faith it will be done.
"If any of you lacks wisdom, et him ask of God, who gives to alll liberally and without reproach, and it will be given t him." James 1:5
