Micah 5:2-5

Bethlehem Ephrathah, So small but yet so great. Among those of Judah Comes the One as we wait. The One to be Ruler, Whose origins from old Are now everlasting. Your ancient story told. Israel abandoned Until the time of birth. Then the remnant goes home To the land of great worth. He will shepherd His flock. Christ comes never to fail. Because of His power, Majesty will prevail. And now we will abide Because great is His grace. To the ends of the earth, His peace in every place.
As we focus on the birth of our Savior and Messiah during this Christmas season, it is important to recall the prophecies that have been fulfilled. Micah 5:2 answers the question of where the Messiah would be born. Bethlehem Ephrathah was near Jerusalem. It was the least honorable and one of the smallest towns in Judah. This prophecy of Micah in 720 BC, tells us that this insignificant place would bring forth the most significant person for Israel, the promised Messiah. He is the One who would be ruler in Israel, the promised Son of David.
Verse 4 tells us He will shepherd His flock. He will lead and care for His people. His greatness ultimately guarantees our security. We are His sheep and He knows us and we know Him and will follow Him. He will lay down His life for the sheep and give them eternal life.
Verse 5 guarantees our peace with God. Peace to all who believe. May you find the peace, love, and security in Christ this Christmas season.
