Weathering Life’s Storms

Posted on November 4, 2022 by ruthbillingsley
Build on the Rock
Why do you call me Lord
And then disobey?
Whoever comes to Me
Will hear what I say.

They may hear and submit
Or reject and hide.
I’ll tell you a story
And let you decide.

Are you like the wise man
Who tunneled deep down,
To build a house that set
On a rock that’s sound?

The hard rain descended,
And the flood amassed.
The wind beat against it,
But the house stood fast.

Or, are you like the man
Who heard God’s command;
Foolishly built his house
Upon the soft sand?

The rain came tumbling down.
We soon know its fate.
The house instantly fell.
The ruin was great.

Which is your foundation?
On what do you stand?
Do you follow God’s will,
Or sink on shifting sand?

When the storms of life come,
When despair assails,
Put your hope in the Rock,
For Christ never fails.

When your life is founded
On the Lord alone,
Then your house will stand strong
On the Cornerstone.

Luke 6:46-49
Matthew 7: 24-27

House on the sand

When the storms of life come, we will feel like we are being battered by a flood. The foolish man thinks he is safe. His house on the sand seemed just fine until the floods came and his house fell. He had no hope. The wise man listened to God, built his house on His Word of truth. When the storms came, he stood firm.

Psalms 18:2 The LORD [is] my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust

1 Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Jesus is our Rock! He is the firm foundation that we can build our lives upon. And if we obey Jesus and everything He tells us in his word, the Bible, we have the assurance that no matter what flood beats upon us, no matter how fierce the storms of this life may get we will never fall. We will never be moved.
