Blessed is the man Who trusts in the Lord. Confidence is in Him. Faith is his reward. He is like a tree Planted by a stream. It will send out its roots To soak up and glean. It does not have fear When heat comes along. Its leaves are always green And forever strong. It has no worries In a year of drought; And it will never fail To bear fruit or doubt. So trust in the Lord. Do good deeds and sow. Your reward will be sure, And your faith will grow. Jeremiah 17:7-10
When we trust in the Lord we are blessed. Blessed in our circumstances, blessed in our relationships, and blessed in our faith. Today’s society trusts in self or other people. There are hundreds of self-help books on the market, but Christians only need one book, the Bible. It guides us in our daily life decisions. It tells us who we are in Christ.
Jeremiah compares our faith and hope to a tree planted by a stream of water. The Lord will take our difficulties, disappointments, grief, and illness and, if we let Him, He will cause our “root system” to stretch and go deeper in Him. When we are in Christ, we are connected to the source of all living water.
Are you drinking from this living water? A tree so planted will not fear when heat comes. It will not be damaged from the heat of summer. When we drink from Christ’s living water we become more and more like Him. We will bear fruit so that others can find help in time of need. Remember, His resources are Eternal and they never run dry.
