Psalm 46 God is our refuge and strength, Our constant help in trouble. Therefore we will never fear, Though the earth falls to rubble. The mountains may tumble down Into the heart of the sea. The waters may roar and foam, Mountains quake relentlessly. There is a river whose streams Make glad the the city of God. The holy place where He dwells, Where we bring honor and laud. God is within, holding up, And will help at break of day. But nations and kingdoms fall, The earth melts with words He’ll say. The mighty Lord is with us. Jacob’s God is our stronghold. Come and see what He has done, Desolations to behold. He makes wars cease with a word, And all the earth will hear. With fire He burns every shield, And breaks the bow and spear. Be still and know I am God, And I will be given praise. Honor among the nations Exalted with glory raise. The Lord Almighty with us, He is our fortress and shield. All my days will exalt Him, And to His sovereignty yield.
Do you need encouragement? This Psalm is for you. It gives us hope because of God’s power and presence in the worst of times. Verse 10 tells us to be still, one of the hardest things to do. It also tells us to know that He is God. There is no one more powerful. No one loves you more. Though everything falls apart – Know He is God – He is in control. He is with us and He is our refuge!
In the New Testament, Jesus personalized that rest when He said, ”Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” In the midst of the cares and despairs of life, we can stop, be still, and find refuge in God.
