Francis of Assisi is known to have said, “Preach the gospel at all times and if necessary, use words”. Our actions are our faith alive, but are our actions enough? When we do something good for another person it may lead to the idea that being good and loving is enough. The saying “actions speak louder than words” is not true. Words are equally important. How else would people know why we are kind, loving and unselfish. Our actions should not take the place of telling the truth of the gospel to others. Without words our actions point to ourselves. There will be moments when we need to tell our story. Let us use words, because they are necessary.

People Need the Gospel
My heart’s true desire And my prayer to God Is that men be saved Both near and abroad. The law was ended With Christ’s own shed blood. Righteousness by faith Will flourish and bud. God’s Word is near you, In your mind and heart. Confess with your mouth; The gospel impart. Now call on the Lord. Call upon His name. Then you will be saved And not put to shame. How will they call Him Or believe His Word? How will they be saved If they have not heard? And how will they hear That they must repent? Or how will they preach Unless they are sent? As it is written: “Beautiful are the feet Of those who preach truth.” Now peace is complete. So bring glad tidings Of good things above. Believe by trusting The gospel of love. And tell your story, What Christ means to you. Actions are pictures. Words tell they are true. (Based on Romans 10:1-17)
