Child of God

Posted on December 16, 2021 by ruthbillingsley
A Child was born
To a virgin, Mary,
The Holy Spirit
Inside to carry.

The angel spoke,
Appearing in a dream.
Do not be afraid,
For God will esteem.

She’ll have a Son;
Jesus will be His name.
He will save people
From their sin and shame.

All this was done,
Prophecy to fulfill,
Given by God and
Into men instill.

Immanuel,
Meaning God is with us.
The wise men traveled,
The bright star to trust.

It stood over
Where baby Jesus lay
With Mary and Joseph
In a stall of hay.

Seeing the child,
They fell down and adored,
Presented their gifts
To the Savior, Lord.

On Christmas Day,
We celebrate His birth.
Jesus, Child of God,
His gift of great worth.
            (From My Heart)

The Christmas story is full of surprises:

  1.  God chose a young couple of little significance to be the earthly parents of Jesus.
  2.  Jesus was born in a time in Israel’s history when it was a lowly part of the Roman Empire.
  3. Jesus was born in a lowly stable away from friends and relatives who may question the timing of the birth.
  4. God announced the birth to lowly shepherds.

These are gifts given to us today:

  1. God uses ordinary people.
  2. God is in control of history, using it for His purposes.
  3. God sees His church as His people, not how grand the building is.
  4. The gospel is for everyone.  Anyone who comes to Him is accepted.

Yes, Jesus came as a child so that each one of us may be called a child of God.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”
      John 1:12
