Your Word is a Lamp

Posted on November 19, 2021 by ruthbillingsley
Psalm 119:105-112

Your word is a lamp
To my feet today,
A light for my path
To shine on my way.

I’ve taken an oath.
To it I’ll be true.
Your righteous judgments
And laws get me through.

For I’ve suffered much
So, preserve my life
By Your holy word
For I endured strife.

Accept me, O Lord,
My mouth’s willing praise
And teach me Your laws.
My hands to You raise.

I constantly take
My life in my hands.
I will not forget
Your laws and commands.

The wicked have set
A snare just for me.
But I have not strayed.
Your servant I’ll be.

Your statutes are mine.
They’ll never depart.
My heritage sure,
The joy of my heart.

My heart is set on
Keeping Your decrees
To the very end.
Lord, I want to please.

God’s Word Guides Us

God’s Word lights our path as we walk through the darkness of this world one step at a time. It reveals the false values and philosophies around us. Study the Bible and you will see your way clear enough to stay on the right path. As children of God, we refuse to worry about tomorrow and trust Him for today.  We find by the light of God’s Word the grace and guidance for every situation in life. Even as a lantern illuminates each step on a dark road at night, so the lamp of Scripture provides light on our pathway.  Don’t forget to pray.  Prayer is the light switch.  God’s word is a lamp to our feet; a light to our path. Prayer is what turns the light on.

God’s Word Guards Us

Regardless of the suffering, fear, and worries of this life, we find confidence in God’s Word. It alone endures. It keeps us on the path of truth and safety.  It guards us against the enemy.

God’s Word Gladdens Us

What precious treasures are in the Word of God.  It’s like a deep mine filled with gold, silver, and precious gems, but we must take time to dig them out. As we do, we will rejoice in our walk with God and rejoice over what He is teaching us and how He is changing us as we get to know Him better and walk closer and closer.
