Psalm 100

God Is Good Shout for joy to the Lord. Shout for joy all the earth. Gladly serve the Lord, And display His great worth. Come now with joyful songs, And know that He is Lord. It is He who made us, Not of our own accord. We are the Lord’s people. We are His flock of sheep. Staying in His pasture Our safety He will keep. Enter His gates with thanks. Enter His courts with praise. Be thankful to the Lord His name forever raise. For our Lord God is good. His love will long endure. Through all generations His faithfulness is sure.
Thanksgiving is a time of celebration. In the United States it is on the fourth Thursday in November. Family members and friends gather together to eat turkey and all the trimmings. Thanksgiving Day dates back to 1621 when the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag shared a harvest feast and thanked God for all His blessings. In most American households, the day has lost its original religious significance.
Psalm 100 is a model prayer of Thanksgiving. Praise is its theme.
Verse 1: We are to make a joyful noise and shout. Who? Everyone in the world.
Verse 2: We are to serve and worship because they go together. Each time we help others we worship. Each time we sing we bring joy to God.
Verse 3: We belong to God because He made us. We are His sheep.
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27
Verse 4: The gates are symbolic of the gates of Jerusalem. We give thanks not so much because of the things we receive, but because of the One who gives.
“And blessed be His glorious name forever.” Psalm 72:19
Verse 5: God is good, all the time! God is love, for all mankind. God is faithful. He never changes!
Be thankful for the gift of eternal life in Jesus. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8
