Week Seven
Keep Focused

My All My heart and mind plan my ways. Is every thought mine? But Lord, direct every step And let Your will entwine. Entwine all circumstances With Your mighty right hand, Working all things for my good, All things at Your command. I pray that You will guide me, Working behind the scenes, Knowing that You’re in control And You will intervene. So I give to You my all And pray You’ll take what’s mine. Holy Spirit, fill me now, Not my will but Thine. Proverbs 16:9
What is your focus? Is it your circumstances or God’s truth? What does God say about our focus?
“Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:15-17
Be wise and understand God’s will for your life. Let’s look at our thoughts, attitudes, and actions.
Thoughts
Focus on God’s truth that produces a life that withstands the test of time. Your thoughts will be His thoughts! That is God’s will for believers!
“ Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” Philippians 4:8
Attitudes
Focus on humility not pride.
“For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly that you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.” Romans 12:3
Focus on encouragement not criticism.
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11
Focus on being in the world not of the world.
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2
Actions
Focus on obedience.
“We ought to obey God rather than men” Acts 5:29
Focus on God’s power not willpower.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
Focus on progress not perfection.
“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6
All of our anxieties begin when we worry about things that are not our problem. We are to trust God. It is only when we focus on our circumstances and problems, instead of God, that we become anxious. Let God calm your anxious heart.
