Week Four
Content With My Role

Grant me the courage to be a servant. To be faithful, loving and true. Grant me contentment in all my roles. They are all perfect gifts from You. Mother, wife, daughter and friend, Whatever I happen to be, Grant me the strength to be each one. Your spirit living in me.
All of us have many roles in life. They require God-given gifts, gifts used with the strength He gives each day to fulfill His purposes in our lives. As I look at my own life, I have been or am now a daughter, a sister, a friend, a wife, a daughter-in-law, a mother, a teacher, a mother-in-law and a grandmother. But the most important role I have is being a child of God.
How can we serve God in the roles we are given? By serving others. Why did Jesus come to earth? Matthew 20:28 says, “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” He asks us to enter our roles with the same purpose. Will our lives always be content? Of course, they will not. At times we will experience difficulties, disappointments, loneliness, illness, and despair. Yet God has a plan and unique roles for each of our lives. He knows what’s best for us and will guide us to contentment and peace through His strength.

God’s grace does more than save us. God’s grace also sustains us. He gives us grace and strength to serve. When we rely on God to fulfill each role, we are humbled. When we rely on Him, He receives the glory. God is faithful. We are to trust and glorify Him in whatever role He has assigned to us. This is our peace that calms our anxious hearts.
