The Fountain of Life

Posted on May 28, 2021 by ruthbillingsley
Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,
Your faithfulness to the lofty skies.
Your righteousness is like the mountains,
Your justice like the great deep-so wise.

O Lord, You preserve both man and beast.
How priceless is Your unfailing love.
All men find refuge under Your wings
And feast on Your bounty from above.

You give us drink from Your vast river,
Your river of eternal delights.
For with You is the fountain of life,
And in You we see abundant light.

Keep giving love to those who know You,
Your righteousness to each upright heart.
May the proud’s foot not come against me
Nor the wicked’s hand drive me apart.

See, the evil doers lie fallen
Thrown down, they are not able to rise.
But those who seek You and what is right
Are lifted up to receive the prize.
Psalm 36:5-12

This poem expresses the love, faithfulness, righteousness and justice of God.  These attributes of God are wider than the heavens, higher than the stars, greater than the mountains, and deeper than the sea.  Jesus Himself is the Fountain of Life who can quench our thirst as we seek His truth.

“Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst.  But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
John 4:14

“Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”

Each stanza of this hymn expresses both praise and prayer. Our hearts are prone to wander, so our prayer is one of faith based on God goodness, His guidance, and His grace.

God's Goodness
"Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above;
Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love."

God's Guidance
"Here I raise my Ebenezer:
Here by they great help I've come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wand'ring from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood."

God's Grace
"Oh, to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be!
Let that goodness like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee:
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here's my heart, Lord, take and seal it;
Seal it for Thy courts above."

May this heart-felt song be your prayer!
