“Frozen”

Posted on February 19, 2021 by ruthbillingsley
This backyard view was taken Tuesday, February 16 at 7:00 a.m. It was -11 degrees but felt like -20 degrees.
"By the breath of God ice is given,
and the broad waters are frozen.
Listen to this, O Job, stand still
and consider the wondrous works of God."
Job 37:10,14
Slate Gap Road, February 13

The winter storm of 2021 is a reminder of God’s omnipotence: God’s unlimited power, unlimited position, unlimited possibilities, unlimited authority, and unlimited might.

God’s Omnipotence

The Lord spoke to Job
Out of the whirlwind,
“Who are you to speak?
You don’t comprehend.

“Now act like a man.
I will question you.
You will answer me.
Listen, hear what’s true.

“Where were you when I
Laid earth’s foundation?
Do you understand
All of creation?

“Who marked earth’s measures,
And how do you know
What holds it in place,
Above and below?

“Who laid its cornerstone
When morning stars sang,
And all of God’s sons
Shouted while joy rang?

“Who shut the sea’s doors
When water burst out,
When I made the clouds,
Thick darkness about?

“I fixed My limit
And set bars and doors,
Ordered every wave
To stop at all shores.

“Have you commanded
The dawn in its place,
The light that’s withheld
From each wicked man’s face?

“Have you gone into
The springs of the sea,
Or walked in search of
Its depths’ mystery?

“Have the gates of death
Been revealed to you?
Have you seen its doors
Or its shadow’s view?

“Have you understood
The breadth of the earth?
Tell me, if you know
The scope of its worth.

“Where is the way to
The dwelling of light?
From where comes darkness
That comes in the night?

“Have you entered the
Storehouses of snow,
Or have you seen hail
Reserved for below?

“What is the way to
Where lightning’s dispersed,
Where east winds scatter
Over all the earth?

“Who has divided
A water flow’s way,
A thunderbolt’s path
That lights up the day,

“To cause it to rain
On an empty land,
A wilderness where
There is not one man,

“No one to care for
The desolate waste
And cause to spring forth
Tender grass in haste?

“Has rain a father
Or the drops of dew?
From where comes the ice
Or the frost’s debut?

 “Can you bind the stars,
Constellations form,
Command the heavens,
And know when they’re born?

“Can you raise your voice
To the clouds in view
And cause the water
To rain down on you?

“Who gave hearts wisdom,
Understanding minds
To number the clouds
And water mankind,

“To tip over jars,
Heaven’s water pot,
When dust becomes hard
And earth’s dry and hot?

The man who contends
With the Lord is wrong.
He’ll answer to God
Everyday, life long.

For man’s unworthy
To question God more.
Cover up your mouth;
Let your faith restore.

God is forever
Creator of all.
He knows every hurt
Each time that you fall.

So rise up in faith;
God is in control.
Never question Him;
Give your heart and soul.

Job 38:1-38

God speaks to Job and these words speak to us today.  His questions for Job are questions also for us.  Can we answer:  Where were we when God laid earth’s foundation?  We did not exist.  Who marked its measures?  What holds it in place?  God has hung the earth on nothing.  All of these questions show God’s omnipotence and our weakness, inefficiency, and frailty. Job was silenced.  We are silenced.  “Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.”  Romans 3:19
