“And the shepherds came with haste and found Mary and Joseph and the Babe lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:16)
A manger or crib is a wooden or stone feeding trough or food box that holds hay for farm animals. They were stored in stables or caves, where animals were kept for shelter. Mary chose this cradle for Jesus. It was soft, the bed was up off the ground, and the sides tall enough to keep the baby safe. Why did God allow this? Because it was His perfect plan. Jesus is our source of nourishment. We can go to Him anytime and never go hungry. Jesus, born on the first Christmas, is food for our souls.
“I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35)
