Can we find perfect love today? Young couples seemed to believe it’s true as they attached hundreds of thousands of padlocks to the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris. These symbols of love declared a couples declaration of “forever”commitment. Because of the weight of so many locks a portion of the bridge began to collapse, so the locks were removed.

The locks point to the deep longing we have for love that is secure and lasting. Human love is very uncertain and may not last, but Christ’s love is eternal. He promises that nothing can separate us from God’s love. It is never limited, never conditional, never withdrawn, and never uncertain. We are living in uncertain times, but when the love of God is buried deep in our hearts nothing in all creation can shake our resolve or our faith. It is a perfect love.

Perfect Love God is for us. He gave His Son; Gave Him for all and love begun. He gives all things through His elect. God justifies; our lives direct. Christ died for us, was raised to life. From God’s right hand He sees our strife. The love of Christ always protects. He pleads for us, never rejects. What divides us from Christ’s great love? Trouble, hardship, or famine’s glove? Persecution, nakedness, sword? Facing our death as sheep, abhorred? No, in all things victors are we, Through Him who loves, conquerors be. For I am sure that death nor life, Angels nor demons, peace neither strife, Present, future, powers nor weak, Height nor depth, or anything bleak, Shall separate us from God’s love That is in Christ, our Lord above.
