On each of my trips to Israel, I marveled at the ancient walls, towers, and gates of Jerusalem. If you google “Jerusalem webcam,” you can see for yourself, live on “earthcam.com”. Amazing! Those walls and towers protected the city from their enemies throughout history. Each tower is made of large stones weighing over a ton each and are about 60 feet tall. Built to overlook and protect!
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.” Proverbs 18:10
The name of the Lord is our strong tower. His name means power, might, authority, creator, deliverer, guide, provider, healer, peace, shepherd, and Messiah, just to name a few. The righteous run to Him. As believers in Christ, we develop an instinct that when we sense danger we run to Him. We are not to stand still and worry; we are to run to God for protection. No matter the outcome of our circumstances, we will be sheltered by His Name.

The Tower of David at the Jaffa Gate has stood the test of time. It has been destroyed many times but has always been rebuilt. It was named by Byzantine Christians who borrowed the name “Tower of David” from the Song of Songs, where Solomon wrote: “Thy neck is like the Tower of David, built with turrets, where on there hang a thousand shields, all the armor of the mighty men.”
When fear surrounds you;
When your doubts arise;
When lonely and sad;
When temptation cries;
Call on the Lord's name.
His name, our tower;
Fortified, secure,
Safe through His power.
Find refuge and rest
In this hiding place;
Away from trouble,
Covered with God's grace.
Surrounded by songs
That deliver you,
Even in the dark
When evils pursue.
God's our strong tower,
Sheltered in His hands;
Protected with love,
His Word, His commands.
