We have deer on our lawn every evening. I have counted as many as nine or more. They like to come for dinner, feeding on our delicious weeds and new grasses. They would love to get to our hostas and flowers, but we have iron fences that keep them out. I also see them down by the lake drinking and finding a quiet, hidden place to rest. They remind me of Psalm 42, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.”
We are living in a time of uncertainty. The Coronavirus outbreak all over the world, as well as in our own communities, reveals to us how vulnerable we are. Many of us feel insecure, defenseless, and worried about the unknown. Perhaps we should look and learn from the deer. Search for what sustains us; feed on God’s word, our daily bread and our true living water. It’s a stream that never runs dry. Have you drank today?
“As the deer pants for water streams,
So my soul pants now for You.
My soul thirsts for the living God.
When can I meet You anew?”
