O Lord, do not rebuke me Or discipline as You speak. Be merciful to me Lord For I am faint and weak. O Lord, heal and restore me. My bones are frail, not strong. My soul is in anguish. How long, O Lord, how long? Turn, O Lord, deliver me. Save me because of Your love. When dead no one remembers Or can praise You up above. I am worn out from groaning, From weeping all night long. I drench my couch with tears As I sing my woeful song. My eyes grow weak with sorrow. They fail because of my woes. Lord, hear my cry for mercy. And save me from all my foes. Away from me, all evil, For the Lord is good and fair. The Lord will hear me crying And with mercy accept my prayer. My enemies will be gone, Ashamed and dismayed. They will turn back and flee In sudden disgrace, afraid. Psalm 6
David pours out his heart to God. He confesses his sin and seeks God’s forgiveness and mercy. He is ill and prays to be restored. His enemies are attacking him and he calls out to God for help. He asks the question, “How long, Lord?” We ask the same question when troubles come. Our burdens may be physical and we need a healing touch from God. Our problems may be spiritual and we cry out to God, confessing in humility.
God wants us to be honest with Him about our grief, our illness, and our weakness. When discouraged, we must look up – look up to God. Will He hear us? Absolutely. He will hear our prayer and He will answer us. He cares for us when we are hurting and in pain. So, cry out to Him, make your prayers sincere and true, allow Him to fight your enemies!

Are you weary, are you heavy-hearted? Tell it to Jesus, Tell it to Jesus; Are you grieving over joys departed? Tell it to Jesus alone. Refrain: Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus, He is a friend that’s well-known; You’ve no other such a friend or brother, Tell it to Jesus alone. Do the tears flow down your cheeks unbidden? Tell it to Jesus, Tell it to Jesus; Have you sins that to men’s eyes are hidden? Tell it to Jesus alone. Do you fear the gath’ring clouds of sorrow? Tell it to Jesus, Tell it to Jesus; Are you anxious what shall be tomorrow? Tell it to Jesus alone. Are you troubled at the thought of dying? Tell it to Jesus, Tell it to Jesus; For Christ’s coming kingdom are you sighing? Tell it to Jesus alone.
